EASA published final Means of Compliance for 5 OSOs in SAIL III UAS operations

On the 19th of December, 2024, EASA published the final Means of Compliance (MOC) and declaration templates for Operational Safety Objectives (OSOs) #03, #05, #06, #18 & #24 for UAS Specific Category SAIL III operations.

Under a particular SAIL level, the UAS operator must meet specified integrity and assurance levels. These levels could be Low, Medium or High. When the requirement is Optional, the UAS operator decides if they want to meet it.

EASA published final MOCs for the following OSOs:

  • OSO #03 - UAS maintained by a competent and/or proven entity
  • OSO #05 - UAS is designed considering system safety and reliability
  • OSO #06 - C3 link performance is appropriate for the operation
  • OSO #18 - Automatic protection of the flight envelope from human error
  • OSO #24 - UAS is designed and qualified for adverse environmental conditions

Julie Garland, Founder and CEO of Avtrain:

"Avtrain welcomes the publication of these MoCs, which allow the industry to move forward with greater clarity due to simplified application processes and a declarative approach supported by evidence for the relevant OSOs."

We agree with the words of Natale Di Rubbo, Drone Project Manager at EASA:

"What does this mean for manufacturers and operators? ✅ Simplified compliance processes: Manufacturers can now declare compliance for their drones, supported by detailed evidence in the declaration form.

✅ Accelerated innovation: A streamlined framework encourages safer and faster deployment of drone technologies.

✅ Expanded possibilities: Easier approval paves the way for more diverse and impactful drone applications."

We are honoured to work together with UAS manufacturers and operators throughout their application journey and achieve operational authorisations issued by National Aviation Authorities from various EASA Member States.
